Best times to cross
- Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 06:00–10:00 — consistently fastest at all Balkan crossings
- Any weekday before 07:00 — freight starts moving early, but passenger volume is minimal
- Sunday 10:00–14:00 — counter-intuitive, but the rush is over by mid-morning
Worst times — avoid if possible
- Friday 14:00–21:00 — weekend exodus from central Europe toward Balkans
- Sunday 16:00–22:00 — return traffic peaks, especially Horgoš and Batrovci
- July 1 – August 31, any day after noon — summer peak season, all crossings affected
- Bayram/Eid holidays — massive Turkish transit traffic through Bulgaria and Serbia
Documents: What Gets You Waved Through Faster
Document issues are the second biggest cause of delays after queue volume. Border officers wave through vehicles with documents ready and in order. A disorganised car can add 10–15 minutes at a busy crossing.
Passenger cars — EU entry
